Introductory Discount for New Yarns...

We have 2 new yarns, Lanaknits Allhemp6, and Wisdom Yarns Fresco. These yarns will be discounted by 10% for the first week, Wednesday, July 2, 2008, thru Wednesday July 9, 2008.

Lanaknits Allhemp6 is 100% Hemp. A 100-gram hank has 165 yards. The average gauge is 22 sts and 28 rows to 4" on a #5 needle. Please note, that when you feel this yarn on the hank, it feels rather coarse, but after you knit and wash your item, it will be softer and softer every time you wash it. The colors that we currently have in stock are Pearl (off-white), Classic (beige), Deep Sea, Avocado, Brick, Aubergine, Chocolate & Licorice.
By the way: This is one of the yarns that you can use to make the Market Bag, one class that we are having this month.

Wisdom Yarns Fresco is 100% cotton and is self-striping. A 50-gram hank has 109 yards.
The average gauge is 5-1/4 to 6 sts to the inch on a #5 to #7 needle. New Designs In Stock from Figheadh and Knitting at Knoon...

Figheadh Yarnworks has a lot of cables for womens sweaters, mens sweaters, and hats. Some are intricate, some are more simple. Most patterns are from approx 32" to 55" finished. (By the way, "figheadh" [fee-yuGH] is Gaelic for knitting or weaving. But Fig Head is just fine!)

Knitting At Knoon Designs patterns include vests, amazingly cute stuffed safari animals and dinos, a gorgeous swing coat, doll clothes, children's sailor outfit, a baby set, and a ruffled bolero.

Tofutsies is here...

We've restocked your favorites and we also got the latest Sock of the Month colorway!
It is called Bandstand. The colorway is purple, magenta, charcoal, and sage green.
One ball is enough to make a pair of socks, and with purchase of this color, you will receive a special free Sock of the Month sock pattern.
The Bandstand pattern is unique in that it starts with knitting a cable band that is joined to form a circle. You then pick up the stitches and knit a rib/slip stitch pattern. Bandstand is a Limited Edition color, so once it is gone, we cannot get anymore. Tofutsie Limited Edition for June 08

Gail Knits is a member SWTC's TOFUtsies Sock Yarn Club and every other month, SWTC sends us a special Limited Edition colourway of Tofutsies, and a sock pattern that will be free with purchase of the Limited Edition yarn. This special colourway is only available to the stores that that are members of the club, and once the store's stock of that particular Limited Edition colourway is gone, it can't be re-ordered.
If you're on our Mailing List, you'll get an announcement telling you that the Tofutsie Sock Club Yarn of the Month is in-stock. (We'll also announce it here on the website.)
When you get the annoucement, don't wait too long as there is a limited amount of this Limited Edition colour available, and Tofutsie is quite popular amongst our sock knitters. When we run out of a Limited Edition colour, we can't get any more:

Cascade Yarn's New Hand-dyed Superwash 220 and Sock Yarn...

Cascade now has a hand-dyed version of the popular 220 Superwash: Paints: The feel is fabulous, not at all "scratchy." And the colors are fun. The yarn is 100% Peruvian Wool and a 100-gram hank has 220 yards with a gauge of 5 to 5-1/2 sts to the inch on a #7 or #6 needle.
For the first week we are offering a 10% Introductory Discount. The discount will be from Thursday, May 8, through next Thursday, May 15, or while supplies last. The fun colors that we have in stock are #9857 Sunshine, #9858 Fruit Smoothie, #9859 Tropical Punch, #9860 Jelly Bean, #9861 Evening Skies, #9862 Tropical Seas, and #9863 Spring Meadow.

There are so many wonderful yarns available, and we're getting them in all the time.
How do you choose? How can you make up your mind?! We know how difficult it is to want to get some of everything, so we're making it easy for you to do just that: the Introductory Discount!
On new yarns or kits that come in, for the first week it'll be discounted by 10%!!

More organic yarns are coming in. What's "organic" yarn? It's usually a yarn that made from fibres that haven't been chemically processed or if it's from a plant source, that source hasn't been grown using pesticides. (Sometimes when someone is allergic to a particular type of yarn, it might be the chemicals used to make it!) It could also mean that the yarn is grown in a way so as not to negatively impact the environment, i.e. water use, farming techniques, etc.
Sometimes organic yarns haven't been dyed. The colour you see is the natural colour of the wool.

There are 2 new organic yarns in stock:
Cottonwood by FibraNatura/Universal Yarns is 100% organic cotton. It is smooth in texture and solid-colored. A 50-gram ball has 115 yards, and the average gauge is 5-1/4 to 6 sts to an inch on a #4 to #5 needle. The colors that we have in stock include #41105 Butter Yellow, #41106 Soft Coral, #41107 Tangerine, #41108 Pink, #41109 Rose, #41110 Lavender, #41111 Cornflower, and #41112 Pistachio.
Balance by O-Wool is 50% organic cotton and 50% organic wool. The yarn is tweedy and slightly nubby. A 50-gram hank has 130 yards. The average gauge is 19 to 21 sts to 4" on a #5 to #7 needle. NEW YARNS FROM SCHAEFER AND COLINETTE'S NEW "NO WOOL" AFGAN KITS

We're now carrying beautiful hand-dyed Schaefer Yarns!
Right now we have Sandra, a 78/22 cotton/rayon blend. A 6-oz hank has 225 yards and the average gauge is 3-1/2 to 4 sts to the inch on a #8 or 9 needle. An average woman's size medium sweater will use 6 hanks. The colors that we have in stock include Billie Holiday (top row #2-shades of blue & purple), Eva Peron (yellow, orange, blue, turquoise), Isabella Castile (dark blue, light blue, red, green), & Minnie Pearl (top row #1 -yellow, lavender, pink, peach).

We also have Laurel, which is a 100% mercerized pima cotton. A 8-oz hank has 400 yards and the average gauge is 4 to 4-1/2 sts to the inch on a #8 needle. An average womna's size medium sweater will use 4 hanks.
The colors that we have in stock include Catherine the Great (purple, green, cream), Elizabeth Blackwell (dark brown, beige, gray, gold), Florence Nightingale (dark blue, light blue, turquoise), Frida Kahlo (top row #3-bronze, rust, red, magenta), Isabella Castile (dark blue, light blue, red, green), and Margaret Meade (bottom row #2-light blue, sage, taupe, warm brown, cream).

We also have a pattern from Schaefer Yarns for the Laurel yarn: it's a little vest knitted in one piece from side-to-side with the yarn doubled, and depending upon the size, takes from 1-3 hanks of the yarn.

Colinette Yarns at Gail Knits LasVegasColinette has a new version of their Absolutely Fabulous Afghan kits. Both kits described below contain hand-dyed yarns. Only the Version III is discounted.

The original version includes 3 hanks of Mohair, 2 hanks of Zanziba (a wool-rayon blend), one hank of Skye (wool), one hank Wigwam (a cotton tape), and one hank Fandango (fat cotton chenille).

Version III is non-wool, non-mohair. It has 3 hanks Silky Chic (furry nylon), 2 hanks Isis (rayon boucle), one hank Giotto (cotton-rayon-nylon ribbon), one hank Wigwam (cotton tape), and one hank Fandango (fat cotton chenille).

The colors that we have in stock include English Garden (shades of green, plum, orange, pink & blue), Rhapsody in Blue (shades of blue, teal & purple), Cornucopia (shades of rust, gold, green and a bit of teal), Moonlight (pastels, teal, mauve, peach, lavender, & cream), Ivory (all ivory), and Special Edition June 2007 (mostly cream with some mauve and light blue).
NOTE: The Version III kits practically flew out the door and we're now Sold Out. Hopefully, we'll be getting more soon.
In the meanwhile, we do have in stock the Colinette Absolutely Fabulous kits which do contain some mohair.

Trendsetter @ Gai Knits - LV, NVTrendsetter came out with a new yarn last fall, Venus. This yarn is actually mixture of several different types of yarns including wool blends, boucles and sparkles, all in the same color family. This spring they have introduced 3 new colors, #3436 Mulberry Bush (shades of purple and rose), #3438 French Vanilla (shades of beige with a little cream and a splash of brown), and #3439 Spotted Zebra (black and white with a little beige).

Jitterbug is in stock!!
I
f you've avoided using sumptuous merino yarns because of their "high maintenance", don't worry: Colinnette has come out with beautiful hand-dyed merino that's machine washable and dryable.

Click here to see the colours of Jitterbug.One of these yarns is called Jitterbug. 100% merino, beautifully hand-dyed, and each 100-gram hank has 294 yards, the average gauge for Jitterbug is 27 to 28 sts and 35 to 36 rows to 4" on a #3 needle. Jitterbug is very versatile and can be used for accessories like scarves, hats, gloves and socks, as well as beautiful sweaters for both women, men, children and babies.

If you're into socks and/or shawls or are wanting lighter-weight sweaters and tops for year-round wear, then definitely check out Jitterbug.


Colinette suggest that pieces knit with Jitterbug (or the DK version, Cadenza) can be machine-washed on cold, and machine-dried on low. You can, however, hand wash with our favourite no-rinse handknit washes: Eucalan and Soak.

New Yarns for 2008 are Arriving...and Denise Singles are here!
Just in time for Spring, the new yarns for 2008 are coming in. We're also getting restocked on of your favourites:

We now carry Marks & Kattens Eco Bomull. This yarn is certified organic cotton. The average gauge is 21 sts and 30 rows to 4" on a #6 needle. The yarn is cabled and really has a nice hand. It should show stitch work very well. A 50-gram ball has 131 yards and the colors currently in stock include Black, Oyster, Natural, White, Light Brown, Dark Brown, Yellow, Deep Red, Lilac, Navy and Deep Green (and more to come).

We also have
Jarbo Soft Cotton. While this is not an organic cotton, it is economical. A 50-gram ball has 88 yards and the average gauge is 18 sts to 4" on a #8 needle. Soft Cotton is good for kid's wear, dishcloths, and spa accessories, and we have a wide color range: White, Black, Off-White, Red, Blue, Baby Pink, Yellow, Hot Pink, Lt Purple, Navy, Gray, Brown, Lilac, Orange, Teal, Lime, Green, Baby Blue, Eggplant, and Taupe (and more to come).

Classic Elite Yarns (CEY) Provence, the 100% Eqyptian Cotton comes in a plethora of colours, and now we've ordered them all.
A wonderful new yarn from CEY is Silky Alpaca Lace, a 70/30 gossamer blend of alpaca and silk. We have many colours of this luxurious yarn.
We also have some exciting new pattern books from CEY for Spring/Summer featuring Provence, BamBoo and Premiere: Summer Book 1, Summer Book 2, Make It Modern, and Curvy Knits.
Classic Elite Silk was a new yarn for CEY last Spring and we have in some new colors. The yarn is a 50/30/20 blend of cotton, silk, and nylon. A 50-gram has 135-yards and the average gauge is 5 sts to an inch on a #6 needle. A woman's sweater will use an average of 8 to 12 balls. The new colors include Cinnamon, Oatmeal, Wave Break (very light blue), Old Lilac and Rhubarb.

From Mondial: Lucente, a 50/50 cotton/viscose blend that knits at 20 sts/22 rows=4" on a size 7-8 needle; Splendid, a chunky cotton with a gauge of 14 sts/18 rows = 4" on a
10-10 1/2 needle; Serenata, 50/50 cotton/viscose & poly that knit at 20s sts/22 rows=4" on size 7-8; and Diamante, a polymid/polyester blend that knits up at 16 sts/22 rows=4".

Trendsetter
introduces Intermezzo, a 81/10/9 poly/cotton/acrylic lustery ribbon that knits up at 3 sts=1" on a size 13 needle; and Bazaar, a 70/20/10 viscose/linen/poly yarn that knits as 4 sts=1" on a size 9 needle.
Cristal is a sheer multi-color nylon ribbon with an average gauge of 4 sts to 1" on a #10 needle. A 50-gram hank has 80 yards. The colors are gorgeous and we have them all: #392 Marshmallow Twist, #394 Caribe Waters, #398 Strawberry Shortcake, #400 Red Roses, #402 Sunburst, #407 Mushroom, #408 Animal Print, and #410 Wine Barrel.
Filosophy (pictured left in #110 - Purple) is 55% cotton and 45% nylon and the average gauge is 4-1/2 sts to one inch on a #8 needle. A 50-gram ball has 110 yards. The colors that we have in stock include #105 Ice, #106 Slate, #110 Purple, #112 Carnation, #113 Olive, #114 Lime, #117 Chocolate, and #499 Ecru. We also have the Filosophy Pattern Book in stock.
Minestrone is a self-striping, multi-textured, acrylic blend containing a wild and wonderful mixture of ribbon, braid, and poufs of colour. There are 6 colourways and we're in the process of designing a stunning sweater featuring this yarn.

We also have new colours of Tonalita!

Prism
makes a showing with Pearls. Take the ever-popular String of Pearls, and hand-dye it the Prism way. Pearls is 70/20/10 cotton/rayon/poly blend that knits up at 18 sts=4" on a size 8.

Also...Denise Interchangeable Needles can now be purchased one size/one pair at a time. The single needle sets come with 2 tips of a single needle size, 2 cords to make a 20" or 24" circular, and stoppers, so that you could use the needles separately or circularly . The price of needles are $13.00 each for sizes 5 thru 9, $15.00 each for sizes 10 thru 15, or $17.25 each for sizes 17 and 19.

If you are interested in the full set, sizes 5 thru 15, the price is $52.50 for the blue set and $57.50 for the pink set (the extra $5.00 goes to breast cancer research). If you want sizes 17 and 19, the tips are sold as a pair for $8.50.

Comfort DK. Like the worsted weight Comfort, the DK is also 50% acrylic and 50% nylon. Although it is soft enough for a baby, it does not feel like baby yarn and you would be pleased to make items for yourself and/or the rest of your family. The average gauge is 22 sts = 4" on US #6 needles or 24 sts = 4" on #5 needles. If you crochet, 22 single-crochet = 4" on a F.

Nora Gaughan has designed a line for Berroco! Berroco Ultra Alpaca at Gail Knits
The pattern books are both done in a flip book design with two "stories":
Nora Gaughan, Volume 1 is titled "Eleanor's Search", featuring laces and hexagons; and "Urban Layers", featuring bold simple pieces for layering.
Many of the designs feature Berroco's newest yarns, including
Ultra Alpaca...which we have in stock! Ultra Alpaca is a luxurious 50/50 blend of super fine Alpaca and Peruvian Highland wool.
Nora Gaughan, Volume 2 is titled "Objet d'art", featuring sculptural pieces; and "3 For All" building cardis, pullovers and bags from the theme of 3 basic shapes.

Recycled Silk Yarn Back In Stock, New Sock Yarn from Universal, and Chunky Alpaca!

We have re-stocked with Earth-friendly recycled silk. Not only is it a lovely yarn, it is the perfect way to Think Green with knitting! The yarn is made from recycled silk saris, and part of the proceeds go to help the women and children of Nepal.

The original recycled silk comes in hanks of 150 yards, approx 150 grams; the new DK version comes in hanks of 150 yards, approx 80 grams.
We also have Sarong, which is a recycled rayon, either with light background called Dawn; or a dark background called Dusk.
We also have all of the colors of Springy Capelli. This is a man-made fiber that you can run with either of these recycled yarn, or almost any other yarn. It is very thin, 350 yards to 30 grams.

We also have Universal Wisdom Marathon Sock, and Frog Tree Chunky Alpaca.
Alpaca Sox is a 60/20/20 Alpaca/Merino/Nylon blend that knits up at 8sts=1" on a size 2 needle. It comes in 100 gram hanks that contain 450 yards.
Wisdom Marathon is a self-striping sock yarn and the colourways represent the Marathons that are run in Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco.
We're carrying 2-3 colourways for each city.
Luxurious Frog Tree Chunky Alpaca knits up at 4sts=1" on a size 10 needle. A 50 gram ball has 54 yards, and though we're carrying 7 colours, many more are available.

CEY Alpaca Sox at Gail Knits Las VegasSock knitters! We have Classic Elite Alpaca Sox . This lovely sock yarn is a 60/20/20 alpaca/merino/nylon blend, and each 450 yd hank is enough to make a pair of socks. The gauge is 8 sts to 1" on a #2 needle. The colors that we have in stock are Candy Hearts-light blue/pink/rose; Dusk-dark blue/shades of purple; and Dress Gray-shades of gray.
(By the way, sock weight yarn also works well for lace projects and makes wonderful scarves, shawls and lightweight sweaters!)

Also new in the shop is Universal's Tango, Softy, and Aster:
Tango is an unusual 50/50 wool/synthetic blend that looks like a woven "tape". By "knitting" it, it fashions a beautiful ruffle that can be used as ruffled edgings, or flowers...it's truly something that you have to see in person.
Softy - For those of you who cannot use mohair, this has a similar look, but is all man-made. It is 57% acrylic and 43% nylon. The average gauge is 13 sts and 21 rows to 4" on a #10 needle. A 50-gram ball has 71 yards. Colors in stock include black, pinky-coral, and denim.
Aster - is very drapey when knitted up. It is made of 26% rayon, 18% Dralon (a type of acrylic), and 56% nylon. The gauge is 21 to 24 sts to 4" on a #5 to #7 needle. (We knitted it at 18 sts to 4" on #7 and it was lovely). A 50-gram ball has 98 yardsand the colors that we have in stock include white, black, taupey-brown, sage, seafoam, pink, medium blue, and dark red.

Those amazing fiber folks at SouthWest Trading Co (SWTC) have come out with 2 new yarns: one is call Yin, the other Yang. They're both a 60/20/20 blend of wool, bamboo and silk, but Yen has tiny sequins on 100% silk thread wound into the yarn that knits up as tiny delicate sparkles.

Berroco Comfort at Gail Knits Las Vegas, NVBerroco has an incredible new yarn in that you have to feel to believe. It's probably the nicest acrylic yarn we've seen, and we believe it's going to be the "go-to" yarn for worsted weight.
Comfort is a 50/50 blend of Super Fine Acrylic and Super Fine Nylon that knits up at 4.5 - 5 sts to the inch (18 - 20 sts to 4") on #8 - #9 needles. It is machine washable on the gentle cycle and you can tumble dry it on low. (If you're looking for a great yarn for babies and kids projects? This is it!)
It comes in 50 colors, including 7 print shades, and is perfect for everything from hats and scarves and sweaters to pillows and afgans.
There is also a pattern book for this yarn with directions for sweater, shrugs, afgans, etc.

Cascade now has hand-painted versions of its popular Pastaza and 220 yarns!
Cascade 220 is 100% wool, 100 grams and each hank is 220 yards. The colours of 220 we have are Caribbean Sea (teals and hot pink); Denim Storm (denim with a little gray and dusty purple), and Dark Sunset (burgandy, brown & black).
Pastaza is 50% wool, 50% llama, 100 grams and each hank has 132 yards. We have Isle of Skye (shades of bright blue and bit of purple), Indian Summer (dark shades of autumn), Featherstone (shades of blue and green), and Cherry Berry (burgandy, red, and dark plum).
Both of these yarns are feltable. Come in and feast your eyes.

Cascade also has worsted weight Venezia. This luxurious yarn made of 70% merino and 30% silk. This yarn is smooth and soft and has a touch of a sheen, and a 100-gram hank has 219 yards. The colors we have in stock include #101 "White Heaven", #104 "Hot Pepper", #105 "Winterfresh", #110 "Pure Diamond", #112 "Pink Lady", #119 "Cloudy Evening", #120 "Paint it Black", #129 "Lavender", #133 "Chocolate Cupcake", and #135 "Black Forest".
